GREEN LANE DIARY PROGRAM 2016
Poster Competition  
 
The Poster Competition was held on 26th  March of 2016 at Green Cross office premises to commemorate World Water Day. A large number of students, teachers, and parents participated on this occasion. Accordingly,   Mrs. Shirani Kalansooriya, Administrative Directress of the Department of Education of Western Province,  Mr. Anura Handunneththi, Chief Instructor of teachers in Art attached to the Department of Education, Ms. Ishara Madwanthi, Environment Officer of  Central Environment Authority and Mrs. Ayomi Warakulasuriya, Executive, Business Department of Mitsubishi Corporation, Colombo Branch participated on our invitation to evaluate the posters. The children were given one and a half hours for drawing and coloring their own posters under the theme of “Water for Communities”. During that period the invitees, principals and teachers were entertained by the staff members.
 
Teachers Seminar
 
The above Teachers’ Seminar was held on the 04th of June 2016 from 08.30 a.m. up to 01. 30p.m at the Lecture Hall of Kaatsu International University premises at Battaramulla attended by Dr. Jagath Seneviratne President of Green Cross Sri Lanka, and the Resource Person of the day such as,
  1. Pandula Adagama – Former Deputy Director of the Central Environment Authority
  2. Priyantha Lalith – Teacher’s councilor of Drama & Theatre studies of National Youth Center
  3. Chanuki Wanniarachchi – Psychology Lecturer of KIU

The first lecture was delivered by Mr. Pandula Andagama advised the teachers to give freedom to the children to express their own thoughts.  At the second stage. Mr.  Priyantha Lalith conducted the Lecture on seminar day for the Teachers. It includes all the Rules and Regulations which should be followed when performing a Drama. The final session was conducted by Ms. Chanuki Wanniarachchi, who is a Psychology lecturer at KIU. This was a very enjoyable and interactive session for the teachers as she incorporated creative activities and discussions to convey her message. 

 

Drama Competition

The Drama Competition was held on 24th September 2016 at the auditorium of Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Narahempita. After the welcome, the judge board and the teams of the drama completion were invited by the staff members of the  Project to present their dramas.

Speech and Essay Contest
 
After the evaluation of the written diaries, a total of 100 outstanding students were selected to be exposed to the next competition on the Speech and Essay contest. This was organization on the 22nd of November 2016 at the premises of the office of Green Cross Sri Lanka at Koswatta from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.  The panel of Judges for evaluation of the performance was as follows.
  1. A.S. Balasooriya, Former Lecturer of NITTA, Prominent writer and Adviser
  2. Tharaka Wasalamudali Arachchi, Prominent Announcer and Writer
  3. K.A.D Sepalika, Deputy Liberian of Parliament Library and Attorney – At- Law.
 
The rules and regulations were explained before the commencement of the contests relating to the speech and essay. The students were summoned for the contest in two batches, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
 
Annual Award Ceremony
 
Green Cross Sri Lanka having accomplished a decade of environmental activities from 2005 onwards for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka with special emphasis on the school children conducted the Commemorative Ceremony on the 15th of November 2016 at the Auditorium of KIU, Sri Lanka the Annual Award Ceremony under the “Green Lane” Competition among the school children of selected schools of Colombo, Gampaha and Kaluthara districts. the Summary of the presentation of certificates, mementos and gifts are indicated below.
  1. Five Air Tickets, certificates and gifts to the for winning children and the teacher to visit Japan and December
  2. Six Outstanding Merit Certificates and gifts for excellent performance
  3. Ninety Merit Certificates and gifts for selection on writing satisfactory diaries
  4. Four Hundred and fifty certificates and gifts to winners at school level
  5. Eighty Five certificates and Mementoes to teachers for assisting the program
  6. Participating Certificates to all participants of the 2016 program
 
Yearly Tour of Japan 
 
On completion of the activities of the program, the following team visited Japan from 7th of December 2016 to 12th of December 2016.
 
  • 1st Place – Seneith Semika Abygunwardena,  Dhamapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya,
  • 2nd Place – Shayini Indumini Liyanaarchchi, Dhamapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya
  • 3rd Place-  Adithiya Kemini Warnakulasuriya, St’ Pauls Girls School, Milagiriya
  • 4th Place – Onli Medavi Akarshana, Lanka Sabha Vidylaya, Battaramulla

At this visit, we were planning to participate in the GCJ Award Ceremony in Japans held in Tokyo, Meet the President of Green Cross Japan, Visit the Mitsubishi Corporation headquarters and also visiting sightseeing in Tokyo.
