Establishment of Herbal Gardens - 2013
The Advisory Board of the Organization decided to establish Herbal Gardens at schools with the participation of the winners of the Green Lane Program of 2013. It was initiated by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan through the Mitsubishi Corporation of Colombo Branch.   
 
It was significant that funds were approved under the “Project Estimated Budget of 2013” by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan.
Four Herbal Gardens were implemented under the decision at the following schools.
  • Yashodara Devi Balika Vidyalaya – Gampaha (established herbal garden in 2012)
  • President’s College, Maharagama
  • 01 Junior School, Piliyandala
  • Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Kotte
 
Consequent to the negotiations held with the principals of the above schools, it was decided to drop Yashodharadevi Balika Vidyalaya as there was a herbal garden established in 2012 under Green Lane Diary Program.
 
The first Herbal Garden was launched at President’s College on 22nd January 2014 with the participation of host of invitees such as the principal, teachers, children and parents. A Name Board has been installed at the location.
In addition, the following items were supplied for the program.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure, mainly compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Items for the construction of a fence such as timber
The Second Herbal Garden at No.01 Junior School was inaugurated on the 24th of January 2014 with participation of the principal, teachers and School children. In addition, the following were supplied as requested by the teachers for maintaining the garden successfully.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure including Compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Timber for making the fence around the garden.
The Third Herbal Garden at Ananda Balika Vidyalaya was inaugurated on the 07th February 2014 with the participation of the principal, teachers and School children. The Name Board has been installed by the Principal. In addition, the following were supplied as requested by the teachers for maintaining the garden successfully.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure including compost
  • Gardening equipments
  • Timber for making the fence around the garden.
 
The principals, teachers, parents and school children were delighted that Green Cross Sri Lanka established Herbal Gardens at the premises of the schools to be maintained with the kind assistance of the Funding Authority.
