GREEN LANE DIARY PROGRAM - 2012
Teacher’s Seminar

 

In order to educate the teachers who are engaged in educational environmental activities of Grade 5, a Seminar was held on 14th September 2012 Dr. Ajantha Perera was the main Resource Person at the occasion.

 

Drama Competition

 

The next competition related to the program was the presentation of Short Dramas by school children and it took place on 30th September 2012. Three winning dramas, three meritorious dramas, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Theme etc. were judged by a panel for the presentation of certificates, mementos, and gifts.

 

Speech and Essay Contest

 

The various aspects of the “writing of Environment diaries” took place according to the Time Frame and the written diaries were evaluated and a total of one hundred were selected for the final competition on the selection of three winners on “Speech and Essay Writing” contest held on 10th    October 2012.
 
Thereafter, ten students were selected for conducting an interview in the presence of their parents and three winners were named by the panel of Judges for a trip to Japan to participate at the Symposium. In the meantime, a suitable teacher to accompany the students were also selected from among five teachers who applied for the same.
The Annual Award Ceremony
 
The Award Ceremony of the project under “Green Lane for School Kids” was organized by the National Organization of Green Cross Sri Lanka and was implemented for the eighth time on the 14th November 2012 at the main hall of the National Youth Services Council Centre at Maharagama in the Colombo District. The distinguished Invitees headed by Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, The Secretary to His  Excellency the President of Sri Lanka arrived at the main gate of the location exactly at 09.30 a.m. and they were welcomed by the President, Green Cross Sri Lanka and the staff of the organization.
 
The awarding of certificates under various categories on “Writing of Environment Diaries” and other competitions has been taken place. Valuable gifts, Bronze Mementoes were awarded with the kind co-operation of distinguished invitees principals, teachers, and members of the organization. It is also very significant that all participants of the Writing of Environment Diaries totaling around 7000 children of the schools of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts were recognized by awarding a certificate of Participation.
 
Yearly Tour of Japan
 
On completion of the activities of the program, the following team visited Japan from 12th December 2012 to 17th December 2012.

  3. Deumini Savindiya, Pannipitiya Dharamapala Vidyalaya
  • Mrs. Chandima Lasanthi, Ihala Bomiriya Kanistha Vidyalaya, Kaduwela, and Dr. Jagath Seneviratne, President of Green Cross Sri Lanka and a staff member.
It is significant that the winners of the program who participated at the GCJ Award Ceremony in Japan held in Tokyo on 15th December. At the conclusion of the GCJ Award Ceremony, the winners and the teacher were awarded mementos and certificates. They also were fortunate enough to visit Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan and meet the officials and thanked them for their kind assistance. Furthermore, it was possible for the members of the team to meet Hon. Shoo Iwasaki, President of Green Cross Japan at his office. They had the opportunity to engage in a sightseeing program of Japan before returning to Sri Lanka on 17th  December 2012
