Green Cross Sri Lanka was able to implement the competition on the writing of the Environment Diary for the third consecutive year in 2007, which expanded to cover 500 students among 5 schools.
A ceremony was held on 2nd July at “Janasetha Kalakendraya” in Moratuwa graced by Hon. Jeewan Kumaranathunga with an attendance of five hundred students/teachers/parents and government officials. Mr. Kawamoto of Green Cross Japan also attended, who visited Sri Lanka during this period to monitor the progress of the construction work and install the solar panels at Green Cross Solar Park.
In October, the diaries written by the students were collected and after an evaluation of same a total of 106 students were selected where they were advanced to the 2nd stage of the competition on the speech and essay writing contest held on 17th November 2007 at “Janasetha Kalakendraya” at Moratuwa participated by a panel of judges. The results were finally evaluated, and the two students were selected as winners and were offered trips to Japan with one teacher in December 2007 to participate at the GCJ Award Ceremony in Japan held in Tokyo.
