Establishment of Herbal Gardens - 2018
The Advisory Board of the Organization decided to establish Herbal Gardens at schools with participation of the winners of the Green Lane Program of 2018. It was initiated by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan through the Mitsubishi Corporation of the Colombo Branch.  It was significant that funds were approved under the “Project Estimated Budget of 2018” by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan. It was finally decided to implement the Herbal Gardens at the following four schools. 
  • Sirimawo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo  
  • President’s College, Maharagama 
  • Siri Piyarathana Primary School, Padukka 
  • Diyagama Junior School, Diyagama 
Consequent to the negotiations held with the principals of the above schools, we established four Herbal Gardens to the schools. 
The first Herbal Garden was launched at Sirimawo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo and President’s College, Maharagama on 27 th February 2019 with the participation of invitees such as the Principal, teachers, children and parents. A name board was opened at the location and Mrs.Hasitha Walpola the Director of Green Cross Sri lanka delivered a speech about how to protect the environment and what we should do for the Herbal garden every day. 
 
In addition, the following equipment was supplied for maintaining the garden successfully. 
  • Plants and Saplings  
  • Manure, mainly compost 
  • Gardening equipment 
  • Items for the construction of a fence such as timber 
The Herbal Garden at Siri Piyarathana Primary School and Diyagama Junior school were inaugurated on the 1st   of March 2019 with the participation of the Principal, teachers, school children and parents. A name board was opened at the location and Mrs.Hasitha Walpola the Director of Green Cross Sri Lanka delivered a speech about how to protect the environment and what we should do for the Herbal garden every day. 
 
In addition, the following equipment was supplied for maintaining the garden successfully. 
  • Manure including Compost 
  • Plants and Saplings 
  • Gardening equipment 
  • Making the fence around the garden. 
The Principals, teachers, parents and school’s children of those schools were delighted of the establishment of Herbal Gardens at the premises, and they looked forward to maintaining them with the kind assistance of the children’s Corporation.  The progress of these Herbal gardens will be monitored in the future by our Members of Green Cross Sri Lanka while their school visits.
