Poster Competition
 
The Poster Competition was held on the 09th June of 2018 at Battaramulle Lanka Saba School premises to commemorate World Environment Day 2018. A large number of students, teachers and parents participated on this occasion. 
 
According to the agenda, we welcomed all participants and explained how to prepare a poster according to aesthetic requirements. The children were given one and half hours for drawing and coloring their own posters under the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution”.  After the lapse of the period given to the students the posters were collected by our staff members to be evaluated.
 
Teachers’ seminar
 
The above Teachers’ Seminar was held on the 8th of September 2018 from 08.30 am to 12. 30 p.m. at the Auditorium of KIU at Battaramulla. First We welcomed all the invitees and teachers. Our resource persons were,

Drama Competition
 
The Drama Competition was held on the 29th September 2018 at the auditorium of Sri Rahula Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Malabe.  
It was also a significant school that the dramas were presented according to the conditions intimated. The members of a drama were limited to a total of 05 actors/actresses and the duration of a drama was limited to 10 minutes with an appropriate background. On completion of the presentation of dramas by all the schools, the  Panel of  Judges after consulting with each other, submitted the results of the dramas.
 
Speech and Essay Contest
 
After the evaluation of the written diaries, a total of 100 outstanding students were selected to be exposed to the next competition on the Speech and Essay contest. This was organized on the 13th of October 2018 at the premises of the office of Green Cross Sri Lanka at Koswatta from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.  The panel of Judges for evaluation of the performance was as follows;
  • Soma Jayakodi, Prominent writer
  • Chandima Wijeybandara, Former Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayawardhanapura

  •  K.A.D Sepalika, The Deputy Librarian of the Parliament Library and Attorney-at-law
The rules and regulations were explained by Ms.Hasitha Walpola Assistant Director of Green Cross Sri Lanka before the commencement of the contests relating to the speech and essay. The students were summoned for the contest in two batches, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
 
Awards Ceremony
 
Green Cross Sri Lanka has accomplished a decade of environmental activities from 2005 onwards for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka with special emphasis on the school children. The Commemorative Ceremony on the 17th of November 2018 at the Auditorium of KIU Campus, Sri Lanka. The Annual Award Ceremony was organized under the “Green Lane Competition” in the selected schools in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts.
 
The Ceremonies were graced by Mr. Arun Dias Bandaranayake, Presenter of Wild Asia on Rupawahini and Mr.Palitha Silva, Famous Actor, Mr. Sudath Silva, Media Director to His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka, Ms. Nilmini Fernando, Senior Executive of Business Unit, Mitsubishi Corporation, Colombo branch and other eminent invitees of Sri Lanka were also present at the venue.
 
According to the agenda of the program, Dr. Jagath Seneviratne, the  President of Green Cross Sri Lanka delivered his welcome speech and he greatly valued these participants at the occasion having, accepted his own invitation to make it a memorable occasion as a very young parliamentarian. Prior to winding up his speech, he conveyed his gratitude for all the organizers for donating funds to implement the Green Lane program from 2005 onwards such as Green Cross Japan, Green Cross International and many other commercial establishments and finally by Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan from on the recommendation of Mitsubishi corporation, Colombo branch.
 
After that, some invitees are delivered their speeches and handed over the certificates and gifts to the students. The air tickets were given to the winners and teachers to visit Japan, as well as, environment badges, Certificates, Gifts, and Mementoes were presented to the recipients by the distinguished invitees. A total of 300 students received their certificates and gifts at the event.
 
Japan Visit
 
On the completion of the activities of the program the following team visited Japan from 05th of December 2018 to 10th of December 2018.

4th Place – POOJANI UTHKARSHA WIMALASOORIYA, Ananda Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Kotte
 
Teacher – Ms.D.I.C.R.S.Karunathilake of Thalahena Maha Vidyalaya, Thalahena
 
It is significant that the winners of the program who participated at the GCJ Awards ceremony in Japan on the 08th of December have interacted well with the children of other countries. At the end of the Awards ceremony, the winners and the teachers were awarded mementos and certificates. They were also fortunate enough to visit Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan and meet the officials and they thanked them for their kind assistance. Not only that, this year we had a chance to visit an elementary school in Japan. In that school, those four winners had to present our cultural dance.
