Establishment of Herbal Gardens - 2016
The Advisory Board of the Organization decided to establish Herbal Gardens at schools with the participation of the winners of the Green Lane Program of 2016. It was initiated by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan through the Mitsubishi Corporation of Colombo Branch.   
 
It was significant that funds were approved under the “Project Estimated Budget of 2016” by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan.
we were planning to implement Four Herbal Gardens this year, but two winners were selected from the same school of Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and also in this school we established the herbal garden in 2012.
 
Therefore, we have implemented this year only the two herbal gardens as follows,
  • Lanka Sabha Vidyalaya, Battaramulla
  • St’Pauls Girls School, Milagiriya
The first Herbal Garden was launched at Lanka Sabha Vidyalaya, Battaramulla on 09th of March 2017 with the participation of the invitees such as the principal, teachers, children and parents. The Main Name Board of “Green Cross Green Herbal School Garden” and Plant name board have been installed at the location.
 
In addition, the following items were supplied for the program.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure, mainly compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Items for the construction of a fence such as timber
The Second Herbal Garden at St’Pauls Girls School, Milagiriya was inaugurated on the 13th of March 2017 with the participation of the principal, teachers and School children. The Main Name Board of “Green Cross Green Herbal School Garden” and Plant name board have been installed at the location.
 
In addition, the following were supplied as requested by the teachers for maintaining the garden successfully.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure including compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Timber for making the fence around the garden
 The principals, teachers, parents and school children were delighted that Green Cross Sri Lanka established Herbal Gardens at the premises of the schools to be maintained with the kind assistance of the Funding Authority.
