Establishment of Herbal Gardens - 2015
The Advisory Board of the Organization decided to establish Herbal Gardens at schools with the participation of the winners of the Green Lane Program of 2015. It was initiated by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan through the Mitsubishi Corporation of Colombo Branch. It was significant that funds were approved under the “Project Estimated Budget of 2015” by Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan.
 
Four Herbal Gardens we are planning to implement this year decision at the following schools.
  • Army School, Panagoda, Homagama
  • Bandaragama National School, Bandaragama
  • S. Senanayaka College, Colombo-07
  • Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya (established herbal garden in 2012)
Consequent to the negotiations held with the principal of the Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya as there was a herbal garden established in 2012 under Green Lane Diary Program.
The first Herbal Garden was launched at Army School, Panagoda on 02nd of February 2015 with the participation of invitees such as the principal, teachers, children and parents. The Main Name Board of “Green Cross Green Herbal School Garden” and Plant name board have been installed at the location.
 
In addition, the following items were supplied for the program.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure, mainly compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Items for the construction of a fence such as timber
The Second Herbal Garden at Bandaragama National School, Bandaragama was inaugurated on the 08th of February 2016 with the participation of the principal, teachers and School children. The Main Name Board of “Green Cross Green Herbal School Garden” and Plant name board have been installed at the location.
In addition, the following were supplied as requested by the teachers for maintaining the garden successfully.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure including compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Timber for making the fence around the garden.
The Third Herbal Garden at D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo-07 was inaugurated on the 10th of February 2016 with the participation of the principal, teachers and school children. The Main Name Board of “Green Cross Green Herbal School Garden” and Plant name board have been installed at the location.
 
In addition, the following were supplied as requested by the teachers for maintaining the garden successfully.
  • Plants and Saplings
  • Manure including compost
  • Gardening equipment
  • Timber for making the fence around the garden.
 
The principals, teachers, parents and school children were delighted that Green Cross Sri Lanka    established Herbal Gardens at the premises of the schools to be maintained with the kind assistance of the Funding Authority.
