We are honored to announce that the *Fourth Smart Water Project* in Lahugala Village, Mahaoya, Ampara District has been awarded the *National Energy Globe Award – Sri Lanka, recognized as the **best environmental project in the country for 2024*.

This prestigious award was selected from over *2,000 projects across 141 countries, showcasing impactful environmental initiatives worldwide. The award was presented by the **Energy Globe Foundation, in partnership with **Advantage Austria*.

Project Overview:

* *Location:* Lahugala Village, Mahaoya, Ampara
* *Beneficiaries:* 416 families
* *Funded by:* Green Cross Japan (GCJ), headed by Hon. Shoo Iwasaki, & the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka
* *Goal:* Provide clean drinking water to a region previously affected by severe water shortages and health issues caused by polluted sources

Initiated in *2022* by *Green Cross Sri Lanka (GCSL), the project established vital pipeline infrastructure. By **February 15, 2023*, clean and safe drinking water reached every household in the village. The initiative helped eliminate health risks from diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and chronic kidney conditions—restoring the community’s health and dignity.

Next Step:

Our project has been submitted to the *international jury* for the *Energy Globe World Award* and will be featured in a *global sustainability database*, showcasing real-world solutions already making a difference.
